Prior to the 2011 season, Baseball America ranked Lonnie Chisenhall as baseball's No. 25 overall prospect. His stock dropped in the year that followed, but he remained one of the Indians' more promising young players, and entering action Friday night he owned a 104 OPS+ with Cleveland over a limited sample. In the second inning against the Orioles, Chisenhall grounded out. In the fourth inning, he hit a single to center. And in the fifth inning, he was hit on the wrist by a Troy Patton fastball.
Lonnie Chisenhall Sustains Wrist Fracture
Friday night, Lonnie Chisenhall was hit on the wrist by a fastball, and he suffered a bone fracture. It stands to reason he’ll be out of action for some time.
Chisenhall was replaced by Shelley Duncan and taken for exams. Initially, he was said to have sustained a wrist contusion. Then x-rays revealed something worse:

There’s no word yet on when Chisenhall is expected to return, but he will be placed on the disabled list, and the Indians haven’t decided who’ll take his roster spot. It’s miserable news for a good young player, and one hopes that once Chisenhall gets back, the injury won’t have sapped any of his power.
