Ohio State’s Jake Stoneburner and Jack Mewhort suspended indefinitely

Following their arrests on charges of obstructing official business Saturday, Ohio State's Jack Mewhort and Jake Stoneburner have been suspended indefinitely.

A Columbus attorney told the Toledo Blade that until their cases are settled, both will be barred from the OSU football facilities. The two players (and a third person) were caught allegedly urinating outside a restaurant near Stoneburner’s home. When they saw a spotlight, they reportedly fled the scene before stopping. A 10tv.com report notes that an officer chasing the trio broke his thumb after falling. As the site notes, had the trio not fled, they would have received a citation that is equivalent to a traffic ticket.

Stoneburner is a rising senior-to-be whom many expect to develop into one of the top tight ends for the 2013 NFL Draft. As a junior, Stoneburner caught 14 passes for 193 yards and seven touchdowns. Mewhort played guard last season but was expected to be Ohio State’s starting left tackle this year.

According to various reports, the three men were released Sunday after each posted a $2,000 bond. Ohio State opens its season on Sept. 1 at home against Miami (OH).
