When Buffalo Was (Almost, Maybe) Major League

From a New York Times piece about Buffalo hosting Wednesday night’s Triple-A All-Star Game:

↵↵BUFFALO — Twenty-five years ago, Morganna the Kissing Bandit came to Buffalo and most of us who were there were convinced that our city was on the brink of winning a Major League franchise. Pilot Field, a gleaming new downtown stadium that was in the vanguard of the retro-ballpark movement had just opened to great fanfare.

↵↵It’s true. That happened. Buffalo supposedly was a serious candidate for an expansion team. Today, Buffalo-Niagara Falls is the 49th most populous metropolitan area in the U.S.
