After missing the final six regular season games in 2011, Matt Schaub received medical clearance for the 2012 season this week.
Schaub started the first 10 games in 2011, leading the Texans to a 7-3 record. During a 37-9 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he suffered a Lisfranc foot injury, causing him to miss the rest of the season. While it was expected that Schaub would be ready in time for training camp, he has been held out of offseason activities as a precaution.
The 31-year-old quarterback is entering the final year of his contract. Without Schaub, the Texans went 4-4 in their final eight games, including the playoffs. He set a career-high in 2011 by averaging 8.5 yards per attempt. This isn’t the first time Schaub is coming off an injury plagued season; he missed five games in both 2007 and 2008.
