Jed Lowrie Injury Update: Astros Shortstop Placed On Disabled List With Ankle Sprain

Jed Lowrie was placed on the disabled list Sunday before the Houston Astros' game against the San Francisco Giants. The shortstop was reportedly diagnosed with a right ankle sprain and damage to the peroneal nerve, which runs up the lower leg.

Lowrie was forced to leave Saturday's game after getting spiked in the ankle by a sliding Gregor Blanco at second base. Lowrie was reaching for a throw, but let the ball get away as he hopped on one foot then fell to his hands and knees in pain.

The length of the stint has not been announced. The injury-riddled Astros also placed Jason Castro on the DL with soreness in his right knee. The team has brought back Marwin Gonzalez from a rehab assignment and purchased the contract to catcher Carlos Corporan in corresponding roster moves.
