Virginia Tech Football: Cody Journell Reinstated After Sugar Bowl Arrest

Virginia Tech kicker Cody Journell has been reinstated to the Hokies football team for the upcoming 2012 season. The place kicker was suspended indefinitely last December, a week before the Hokies' Sugar Bowl appearance. Journell was arrested after he and two associates went to the residence of two Hokie basketball players with an air gun. He was originally charged with felony breaking-and-entering but plead guilty to misdemeanor trespassing this May.

Virginia Tech’s Athletic Director, Jim Weaver, issued a statement saying Journell had met his obligations and would be reinstated. Via Mark Giannotto of The Washington Post:

“Cody has fulfilled all of the obligations in conjunction with his suspension and is back as an active member of the team,” Weaver said in a school-issued statement.

The rising redshirt junior hit 14 of 17 field goal attempts and 43 of 44 extra points last season for Frank Beamer’s club. The Hokies begin fall camp on August 7 with their first pre-season practice.
