The Minnesota Twins have placed first baseman Justin Morneau on the MLB's paternity leave list. Morneau's wife Krista was expected to give birth to the couple's second child over the weekend, and the Twins put him on the paternity list Saturday morning. Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire slotted Morneau as the designated hitter on Friday night in case he needed to quickly flee Kansas City and head home. He made it through the game on Friday but now he'll have three days to return to the club.

The MLB’s paternity leave list allow a team to make a roster move and call up a player as a short-term replacement. The Twins promoted Chirs Parmelee, a first baseman with Triple-A Rochester. Parmelee was hitting better than .300 in 28 games at Rochester and was the expected replacement once Morneau was called away. In 103 at-bats at the big league level this year he hit .194 with two homers and five RBIs.
