White Sox Activate Gavin Floyd From DL

White Sox righthander Gavin Floyd had some elbow discomfort, so a week ago he was placed on the disabled list retroactive to his last start. That meant he’d only miss one or two starts, with the All-Star break intervening.

The White Sox activated Floyd Monday, according to a press release from the team:

Prior to tonight’s game vs. Minnesota, the Chicago White Sox reinstated right-handed pitcher Gavin Floyd from the 15-day disabled list. Floyd is scheduled to start tonight’s series opener vs. the Twins.

Floyd, 29, has been on the disabled list since July 17 (retroactive to July 8) with right elbow tendinitis.

The White Sox had previously optioned Dylan Axelrod to Triple-A Charlotte to make room for Floyd on the 25-man roster. The Sox could use a healthy Floyd; they’ve lost five straight and fallen out of first place in the AL Central.
