Chase Headley is an interesting trade target for a lot of obvious reasons. He's good, he's relatively cheap, and he's under contract for the next two seasons. The Padres are not under any pressure to trade him, and they can sit back and wait for teams to show up at their door with wheelbarrows full of prospects.
Chase Headley Rumors: Phillies Could Be Interested
The Padres might be trading third baseman Chase Headley, and the Phillies might be interested in acquiring him.

The team control of Headley makes him of interest to all sorts of teams, though, and not just contenders. From Jon Morosi:

With the slumping Placido Polanco leaving as a free agent, and with the Phillies looking to contend next season, Headley would fit a big need. It's hard to imagine them having enough prospects after last year's Hunter Pence trade to whet the appetite of the Padres, but they could always flip some of the prospects they might get from Shane Victorino, Hunter Pence, Cliff Lee, or Joe Blanton.
Whatever they do, the Phillies won’t be boring before the deadline. Even if they don’t make a single move, that’ll be something to talk and write about.
No truth to the rumors the Phillies were inquiring on Pirates’ shortstop Chase d’Arnaud in a quest for an all-Chase infield.
