White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko was involved in a minor collision Tuesday night in Chicago in their game with the Royals; Kansas City's Jarrod Dyson's elbow accidentally hit Konerko's head. No one thought too much of it at the time, but Konerko missed Wednesday's game and it was announced earlier Friday that he'd sit out that night's game against the Athletics, too.
Paul Konerko On Concussion Disabled List
The White Sox first baseman will rest his concussion symptoms for at least a few more days.
Now, he’ll sit out a few more days, as he’s going on the seven-day concussion disabled list. From a White Sox press release:
Prior to tonight’s game vs. Oakland, the Chicago White Sox placed first baseman Paul Konerko on the seven-day list disabled list with a concussion.
Konerko is hitting .316 (119-377) with 18 home runs and 54 RBI in 101 games this season. He ranks sixth in the American League in on-base percentage (.388) and is tied for sixth in average.
This marks the first time the White Sox have used the seven-day disabled list.
The Sox will make a corresponding roster move prior to Saturday’s game vs. the A’s.
As noted above, Konerko is having a fine year; Adam Dunn will likely fill in at first base, but the Sox will miss Konerko's bat until he can return.
