Padres Closer Huston Street Has Calf Injury

The Padres’ closer has been one of the best performers on the team this year, but now he could be out with an injury.

San Diego Padres closer Huston Street has been having a fine season, unnoticed by many because he's playing for a mostly unnoticed team: 0.75 ERA in 36 games, with a 0.528 WHIP. No, those aren't made-up numbers.

Street might be on the shelf for a time due to a freak injury suffered right at the end of the Padres' win over the Pirates Friday night. George Von Benko:

On the game’s final out, Street sprinted to cover first base, but was waived off by first baseman Yonder Alonso. Street came up hobbling, with an injury to his left calf.
“I was coming off the mound and pulled my calf,” Street said. “It’s a weird thing to explain, other than you just feel something pinch in there, and you hope you wake up in the morning and it’s better. I’ve never really done anything to my calf. ... Hopefully it heals sooner than later. I’m just thinking right now of a way to get it healed.“Van Benko’s article quotes Padres manager Bud Black as saying his “premonition” is that Street could be out “for a while”.
