The New England Patriots on Sunday worked out free agent receiver Plaxico Burress but they are not expected to sign him to a deal at this time, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Plaxico Burress, Patriots Not Expected To Reach A Deal
SB Nation’s Pats Pulpit called it when they wrote that the workout “could turn out to be nothing more than Belichickian due diligence.”
Teams often work players out to get a gauge of where they stand physically in case of injuries to other players currently on the roster. That’s likely the situation with Burress, who remains without a team for the 2012 season. Burress, 35, was somewhat productive last season with 45 receptions for 612 yards and eight touchdowns.
At this point, though, it’s a little concerning he’s not even on a team. Perhaps he lands somewhere if and when another team suffers injuries, but it’s hard to think he’d be any better in 2012 than 2011 without a training camp.
