Orioles Trade For Indians’ J.C. Romero

The Baltimore Orioles reacquired left-handed reliever J.C. Romero in a trade with the Cleveland Indians.

Presswire

The Baltimore Orioles have a fantastic record in one-run games -- 22-6 -- and that strikes some observers as a little lucky. More than a little, really. And while there's some science behind that suspicion, the Orioles' bullpen has been one of the best in the game, and that certainly has helped them in close games. The September bullpen might be a little deeper now, as the Orioles reacquired left-handed reliever J.C. Romero from the Cleveland Indians for minor leaguer Carlos Rojas.

Romero hasn't allowed an earned run for the Indians this year ... probably because he hasn't been in the majors. He started the season with the Cardinals and was released after allowing nine earned runs in eight innings. He then signed with the Orioles, who released him after 14 innings on their Triple-A team. Apparently he showed them something impressive -- not impressive enough to stop them from releasing him the first time, but impressive enough to reacquire him.

Rojas is a 28-year-old utility infielder, and he was hitting .208/.270/.226 in Triple-A, so put down those Baseball America Prospect Handbooks, Indians fans. He's going over in the trade because it's rude to simply borrow J.C. Romero as if he were a neighbor's cup of sugar.
