Washington Redskins former head coach Joe Gibbs really has a way with words. With using the wrong ones, I mean. The horribly offensive sort of words that just tumble out and lay at the dinner table and no one is sure where those words came from or how to get rid of them. But still: a way with words!
Joe Gibbs Says He Was ‘Queer For Tight Ends’

Courtesy of Deadspin, which also has the video of the appearance on their site, is this snippet of Gibbs’ appearance on ESPN Radio on Wednesday, with show hosts Ryen Russillo and Bram Weinstein.
Russillo: Ryen Russillo, Bram Weinstein in again for Scott [Van Pelt] and out moves Charles Oakley and in comes the Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs, football coach, owner, the whole deal.
Gibbs: That’s a big dude that just left here, that guy’s a big dude.
Russillo: He looks like he could actually make the transition to tight end.
Gibbs: I think he could. I go to the pro basketball game every time and they always said I was queer for tight ends. I had more tight ends running out there with the Redskins, and I look out there and that’s where the tight ends are, they’re playing in the NBA.
Russillo and Weinstein were speechless for a moment after that before moving on and quickly changing the subject. Certainly a collar-tugging moment, and I’m sure we can expect a formal apology within the next few hours.
