Devin Mesoraco Still Waiting For Suspension Appeal Date

The Reds catcher bumped an umpire two weeks ago and was suspended for three games, and appealed. He’s still awaiting his hearing.

More than two weeks ago, at the end of July, Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco was suspended for bumping umpire Chad Fairchild during a game against the Padres in San Diego. The suspension was supposed to be for three games, plus an fine of an undisclosed amount.

Mesoraco appealed the suspension. Here we are in mid-August and there’s no word on when that will happen:

Devin Mesoraco said the date to hear the appeal on his three-game suspension has not been set.
“They’re trying to get a date that’s open for everyone,” he said. “We had a date, but someone had to cancel.”
Mesoraco does not have to attend; the hearing is done via video. That’s actually big news; in previous years, suspension appeals were heard when the suspended player’s team next played in New York, so he could attend the hearing in person. It’s good to know that someone told MLB’s offices about videoconferencing.

Insert TV blackout joke here.
