Banner Pilots: They Just Do What They’re Told

If you really feel strongly enough about a certain thing, you can pay a guy who owns a plane to tow a giant banner across the skies. The banner will be emblazoned with your cause, be it "CLASS OF '07 RULES" or "MARRY ME MARCIE" or "FREE THE POPE" or whatever. No matter how misguided or silly or geographically incorrect your mission, a banner pilot is ready and willing to take your money. Which brings us to New Orleans Saints fans.

The Saints, of course, were heavily penalized by the NFL during the offseason, resulting in, among other things, head coach Sean Payton being suspended for the entire 2012 season. Many Saints fans are understandably upset about this.

Some of the fans are so upset that they have created a website called FreePayton.org, which is dedicated to “demanding that the suspension of Sean Payton be immediately reversed and the sanctions against the Saints organization be dropped.”

How are they intending to make that happen? Well, via banner pilot, of course.

Yep there’s the banner. Flying over the Saints’ practice facility. You know, because the Saints suspended Payton. Because the Saints, who are the subject of these sanctions, totally have a say over whether they can bring Payton back.

Wait, maybe this is all a mistake. Quick, everyone! After that plane! It’s going to lead us to where they’re giving away all the free Paytons!
