Brett Anderson hasn’t pitched in the major leagues in over a year; he has been rehabbing from an elbow injury.

Now, with the Athletics in a playoff race, they'll get him back to bolster their rotation, according to CSN Bay Area:

According to sources close to the team Brett Anderson will make his first start since June 5, 2011 this Tuesday at the Coliseum against the Minnesota Twins. Anderson underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery on his left elbow on July 14, 2011.

Anderson threw a bullpen session on Saturday in front of A's manager Bob Melvin and pitching coach Curt Young. After the session, Anderson told our A's Insider that he felt he was close to ready.

Anderson has made six rehab starts, one for Class A Stockton and five for Triple-A Sacramento; the results (4.24 ERA, 1.371 WHIP, four home runs allowed in 25⅓ innings) haven’t been great, but then many times rehab assignments are more about getting a pitcher stretched out and working on certain pitches, than actually winning games.
