Barcelona Vs. Real Madrid, 2012 Spanish Super Cup: Messi Misses Game’s 1st Chance

Hey! A genuine scoring chance! In a Clasico! Amazing. Even better, it's a genuine scoring chance which Lionel Messi completely blows, which is basically a collectors' item. Dani Alves does well down the Barcelona right, weaving his way to the byline before cutting the ball back across the box. The pass evades everyone until it reaches Messi in space near the penalty box.

You'd expect him to score from there most of the time. Iker Casillas looked traumatised as Messi wound up for the shot, but it ended up flying well wide of the post. Maybe he's not omnipotent after all!

Anyway, thanks to that miss, it remains 0-0 at the Camp Nou. Don’t expect that scoreline to change very soon -- both teams are defending well enough that goals don’t seem particularly likely at the moment.
