Since July 1, the Houston Astros have gone 7-40 and long ago lost any hope of divisional contention.

Now, it’s very close to being mathematical fact. If the Cincinnati Reds defeat the Philadelphia Phillies Thursday night, the Astros will be mathematically eliminated from the NL Central race; it’ll be the first such elimination this season.
