The Red Sox DH is not 100 percent, but he’s going to be back in action Friday.

Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz has been out for more than a month with an Achilles injury. Those can be painful, as well as painfully slow to heal. But Ortiz is set to return, according to CBS Sports' Jack Moore:

Ortiz has been out since July 17 due to an Achilles injury. The injury lingered, keeping him out much longer than the initially anticipated two weeks. The Red Sox scored 0.7 fewer runs per game and had an OPS 58 points lower without Ortiz in the lineup.
Ortiz mentioned he wasn’t quite 100 percent yet.
“I feel OK. I’m not ready ready, but I think I can play like this,” he said.Ortiz was in the midst of having a very good season when he went down: .316/.414/.609 with 23 home runs and 58 RBI in 89 games. At the time of the injury, the Red Sox were 46-44 and just 1½ games out of the second wild-card spot. Since then they have gone 13-21 and fallen to the fringes of the race, 8½ games behind that spot.

Just in case you think losing one key player doesn’t matter. No corresponding roster move has yet been announced.
