Twins LHP Scott Diamond Suspended 6 Games

Minnesota Twins starter Scott Diamond was suspended six games for throwing at Josh Hamilton.

Presswire

Minnesota Twins pitcher Scott Diamond was fined and suspended six games by Major League Baseball after throwing behind the head of the Rangers' Josh Hamilton on Thursday.

Diamond let one fly and buzzed the tower of Hamilton, who ducked out over the plate as it sailed behind his head. The Twins lefty was immediately tossed in the bottom of the third by home plate umpire Wally Bell. The pitch was retaliation for a Roy Oswalt beaning of Joe Mauer in the top of the inning. Mauer was hit in the upper back but stayed in the game.

The suspension was announced less than 24 hours after the pitch, and right before the Twins took the field for the second game of a four-game weekend series. MLB noted that Diamond, who started serving the six-game suspension on Friday, would appeal the decision. You can view a gif of the pitch here.
