After blowing a five-run lead in the top of the ninth inning, the Chicago White Sox scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to knock off the Seattle Mariners 9-8.

Chicago led 7-2 going into the ninth inning, but Seattle rallied to score six runs to temporarily take an 8-7 lead. John Jaso delivered a big two-out single to tie the game with Michael Saunders scoring on a wild throw to give Seattle the lead.

Tom Wilhelmsen came in to close the game for the Mariners but immediately got off to a rough start. Gordon Beckham singled then Wilhelmsen walked Dewayne Wise on four pitches. Kevin Youkilis then singled up the middle to drive in Beckham and tie the game at 8. After an Adam Dunn flyout, Paul Konerko drove a ball deep into the right-centerfield gap. Eric Thames appeared to catch the ball but then collided with Saunders, causing the ball to fly out of his glove. Wise raced home from second to seal the win for Chicago while Thames and Saunders could only watch from the warning track.

Eric Wedge argued that Thames made the catch and Wise should be ruled out for failing to tag up, but the umpires ruled it a hit and Konerko was credited with a single.
