Shaun Marcum Back In Brewers Rotation Saturday

Milwaukee Brewers righthander Shaun Marcum went on the disabled list June 23, retroactive to June 15, with elbow tightness.

That tightness must have been pretty tight, as he did not pitch for more than two months. However, that will change Saturday. Tom Haudricourt:

Shaun Marcum returns to the mound for the Brewers for the first time in more than two months Saturday, and manager Ron Roenicke noted the veteran right-hander has a lot at stake over the final five weeks of the season.
“It’s an important time for him to pitch well,” said Roenicke, who lost Marcum from his rotation in mid-June due to elbow issues. “He’s a free agent after the season. I think it’s a time when he needs to show people he can pitch.Haudricourt’s article further suggests that the Brewers might still attempt to trade Marcum before August 31; he would, of course, have to clear waivers first, but Haudricourt doesn’t think that would be an issue:

The Brewers also might be able to get something in return, even at that late date. There has been no indication they plan to keep Marcum from testing the market.
Asked if he thought a contender might come after Marcum if he looks good in his next two starts, Roenicke said, “Why wouldn’t you?“It’ll be an interesting final week before postseason rosters must be set August 31.
