In another season, this could have been the Boston Red Sox news everyone was talking about: David Ortiz is on the disabled list with a sore Achilles heel, and he might miss the rest of the season. According to Tom Caron of NESN, Ortiz will get a cortisone shot and a week of treatment before he's reevaluated.
David Ortiz Hits 15-Day DL With Heel Injury
The slugging DH was activated from the DL on Friday, and he went 2-for-4 in his return. But lingering soreness over the weekend kept him out of the lineup. To take his spot on the roster, the Red Sox wil activate Ryan Kalish.
Ortiz is a pending free agent, so there’s a chance, albeit unlikely, that Friday’s game was the last of his Red Sox career. With the Red Sox continuing to struggle, there probably isn’t going to be a tremendous urge to rush Ortiz back out on the field, so at the very least, it’s likely that he’s played his last game of the season.
Ortiz is currently hitting .318/.415/.611 with 23 homers on the season.
