As though things hadn't gone bad enough for the Philadelphia Phillies this season, the team announced on Saturday that their most consistent hitter would be hitting the disabled list. The Phillies placed catcher Carlos Ruiz on the 15-dy disabled list with plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
Carlos Ruiz Out 4-6 Weeks With Plantar Fasciitis
Carlos Ruiz has landed on the 15-day disabled list. The Phillies will be losing their most productive hitter for at least a month.

An MRI revealed a partial tear in Ruiz's foot and in total, he is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. This is obviously a huge blow to the Phillies lineup, which was already thinner following trades that sent Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence to the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants, respectively.
Ruiz had been having a phenomenal year; one that saw him make a trip to the All-Star Game. Before the injury, he had been hitting .335/.399/.559 with 14 home runs and 58 RBI. His OPS+ of 155 far outpaced the rest of the starting lineup and only Pence was contributing above-average offense out of the other everyday players on the Phils leading up to his trade.
