The Seattle Mariners made a big statement while playing the New York Yankees Saturday afternoon. The Mariners evened up their three-game set in the Bronx with a 1-0 win as Felix Hernandez twirled a two-hit, complete-game shutout win.

The Yankees may have gotten Ichiro Suzuki before the trade deadline, but Seattle still made sure the Mariners would hold onto their undisputed ace and one of the very best pitchers in all of baseball. As Hernandez picked up his 10th win of the season, the Yankees were almost certainly lamenting not being able to wrest Hernandez away from the Pacific Northwest, as they are rumored to have had their sights set on him for some time.

Hernandez allowed a single to Suzuki, a double to Robinson Cano and two walks as he struck out six Yankees over nine innings and outdueled New York starter Hiroki Kuroda. Kuroda's costly mistake was a two-out single to Mike Carp in the second inning.
