MLB Announces Very Tight Postseason Schedule

The commissioner’s office released the 2012 postseason schedule Thursday. They’re going to be praying for nice October weather and no tied teams at the end of the regular season.

Earlier this week, I wrote about the possibility that multiple teams could tie for the AL wild card and what that might do to the postseason schedule.

Thursday, MLB released the official postseason schedule and they’re asking for schedule trouble:

The Division Series will run from Saturday, October 6th though Friday, October 12th, with two potential Game Fives on both Thursday, October 11th and Friday, October 12th.Why is this an issue? Jayson Stark explains:

Insert Bud Selig hotel room joke here.

Seriously, though -- what happens if there’s a multiple-team tie? Or, as is common in October in many parts of the USA, weather postpones a game? I can see the steam coming out of Bud’s ear now -- you now, the ear he’s always sticking his hand behind to hear better.

MLB has to cross its proverbial fingers and hope none of those unusual, but hardly rare, scenarios come to pass.

You can find the entire postseason schedule, along with broadcast information, here.
