Gay Olympians, Day 13: Rapinoe & Sundhage Win Soccer Gold. More Gay Medals.

Three openly gay Olympians have won medals, with more possibly coming later this week.

Team LGBT 2012: 1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze (if a country, currently tied for 39th)

Seimone Augustus, USA, Basketball
Team USA had its closest call of these Olympics but still topped Australia, 86-73, in their semifinal game. Augustus scored eight points, grabbed four rebounds and added an assist. Next, the U.S. faces France for the gold medal on Saturday.

Edward Gal, Netherlands, Equestrian
After taking bronze in team dressage, Gal finished ninth overall.

Carl Hester, Great Britain, Equestrian
After taking gold in team dressage, Hester finished fifth in the individual competition. Hester was the highest-scoring male rider, beaten out by four women; The event is not divided by the gender of the riders.

Netherlands Women’s Field Hockey -- Marilyn Agliotti, Carlien Dirkse van den Heuvel, Kim Lammers, Maartje Paumen
The Dutch women got a huge extra-time win over New Zealand, vaulting them into the finals on Friday. Read more about it here.

Megan Rapinoe, USA, Soccer
Team USA won the gold medal with a big win over Japan, 2-1. Rapinoe set up the Americans’ second goal of the match with a great pass that Carli Lloyd knocked in for her second score on the day. Head coach Pia Sundhage is also openly lesbian. Congratulations to both of them, along with all of Team USA.
