Lance Berkman Activated From Disabled List
The St. Louis Cardinals have activated Lance Berkman from the disabled list. The veteran switch-hitter had aggravated his surgically repaired right knee in early August. Additionally, the team added left-handed pitcher Sam Freeman to the roster.

Berkman has battled injury throughout the 2012 season, and has played in only 28 games with the Cardinals. He has batted .267 with two home runs and seven RBI in 75 at-bats. He is expected to serve a part-time role for the club in an attempt to prevent further injury to the veteran switch-hitter.
St. Louis also added left-handed pitcher Sam Freeman to the roster, giving them another lefty to work out of the bullpen. Freeman appeared in 13 games for the Cardinals in June, giving up 12 hits and nine runs in 13 innings pitched but posted a 2.08 ERA in 27 outings for the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds.
