Jeff Niemann Returns From DL, Leaves Game Injured

In the same start Jeff Niemann was making his comeback from the 60-Day DL, the pitcher had to elave with right arm stiffness.

Just as the Tampa Bay Rays welcomed back Jeff Niemann from the 60-Day Disabled List, they might be saying goodbye once again.

The starting pitcher was forced to leave Saturday's game in the fourth inning against the Toronto Blue Jays due to discomfort in his right arm, according to SI.com. He was relieved by J.P. Howell.

Ironically, the last start Niemann made was versus these same Blue Jays back on May 14 when he suffered a fractured right leg on a line drive.

The 29-year-old could be a major factor down the stretch for Joe Maddon's club, who entered September trailing the New York Yankees by 4.5 games in the American League East and the Baltimore Orioles by 2.5 in the AL Wild-Card hunt. In what will be a key series, Tampa Bay begins playing the Yankees starting Monday.

Before he was injured in the Spring, Niemann was 2-3 with a 3.38 ERA on the campaign.
