Dismissed For Being Gay? Preview Of Our Exclusive On-Camera Interview With Jamie Kuntz

SB Nation obtained an email from North Dakota State College of Science, in which the school president strikes back against allegations that Jamie Kuntz was kicked off the football team because of his sexuality.

Earlier this week, a firestorm erupted when former North Dakota State College of Science football player Jamie Kuntz went public with allegations that he was kicked off the team for being gay. What followed was a back-and-forth of accusations, with Kuntz contending his sexuality was the reason for his dismissal and the school countering that he was caught lying about an incident, in which Kuntz was seen kissing his boyfriend in the press box at an away game.

SB Nation obtained an email sent to the student body from North Dakota State College of Science president John Richman, in which the school defends its decision.

Recent public statements about NDSCS made by former student athlete, Jamie Kuntz, have prompted me to publicly defend decisions made by the college and speak out about our policies on student conduct

Additionally, Richman reiterated that NDSCS is a tolerant, welcoming campus in the email.

It is unfortunate that the events of the week have prompted the mass media to inaccurately portray our campus, faculty, staff and students as something other than what we are. Let's continue to operate North Dakota State College of Science, as we always do, with our Quality Standards as guiding principles, and with integrity and fairness always at the forefront.

Despite how this is being portrayed by some, Jamie's sexual orientation had nothing to do with his dismissal from the football team. NDSCS is a welcoming campus where individual differences are valued and respected

In his first on-camera interview since being kicked off the team, Kuntz spoke to Amy K. Nelson about his dismissal and the controversy surrounding it. Kuntz told Nelson that he was dismissed for lying, but believes his sexual orientation is the real reason he’s no longer with the team.

Here is a preview of that interview:

In the rest of the interview, Kuntz talks about his sexual orientation, the circumstances surrounding his dismissal, his desire to continue his football career at the Division I level and the possibility of a lawsuit. Since the firestorm of controversy erupted, Kuntz has endured emotional turmoil, and his family discusses how the whole ordeal has changed him.

Kuntz’s exclusive on-camera interview with Amy K. Nelson can be seen on the next Full Nelson..
