Before the latest young baseball phenom, Texas Rangers shortstop Jurickson Profar, even stepped on a big league field, people around the game were lauding the 19-year-old from Curacao as a special talent.

On Sunday, the teenager finally put on a big league uniform, and it didn’t take him long to confirm his status as baseball’s next big thing.

Profar homered in his first ever MLB at-bat on Sunday afternoon against the Cleveland Indians, a 388-foot shot off starter Zach McAllister that would've been appropriate for an experienced slugger, let alone a teenage middle infielder. For scouts, it probably felt like a confirmation of everything they had been saying for years now.

At 19, Profar is now the youngest player in all of Major League Baseball, but it seems pretty clear from his first few innings that he’s ready to compete at the sport’s highest level. After hitting .281/.368/.452 in 126 games with Double-A Frisco this season, there’s a good chance that Profar is in the big leagues for good.

Update: Profar doubled in his second at-bat, finishing the day 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. The Rangers won the game, 8-3.
