Did Clemson’s Fake Field Goal Cross The First Down Line?

Clemson’s offense is pretty fun to watch. Its fake field goals are apparently pretty fun to watch, too! On this one, the holder faked a pitch before shoveling to Darrell Smith, who banged his way across the line for the first down. OR DID HE? There is, as you might expect, some controversy. Here’s the best look at how far he got:

Really not easy at all to see how he crossed the line. The refs were satisfied they got the call right, granting the Tigers the ball and the chance to score their second touchdown. This could be a call we end up remembering.
