The Phoenix Mercury locked up the first pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft Lottery on Wednesday, their first step toward what hopefully will be a bounce-back season next year for the two-time WNBA Champions.
Phoenix Mercury win WNBA draft lottery
The Phoenix Mercury nabbed the No. 1 pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft on Wednesday.

The Mercury, who went 7-27 last year, are expected to return a number of key players next season including Diana Turasi, Cadice Dupree, Australian Penny Taylor and 2012 draft choice Samantha Prahalis. Head coach Corey Gaines knows that with a base of players like this, a contending basketball isn’t far behind:
“We have a solid base already with Diana (Taurasi), (Candice) Dupree and DeWanna (Bonner) had a superstar year,” said Phoenix Mercury coach Corey Gaines prior to the selection show. “Penny Taylor, who had an ACL problem and now she’s coming back next year... Our core is solid, so to add another piece to that is just even better.”
An exact date has yet to be set for the 2013 draft, but will be held in April at ESPN’s Bristol, Conn. studios.
