Homer Bailey no-hitter: Pittsburgh Pirates fans react

The Pirates lost all hope at a winning season in the most embarrassing way possible Friday. They were no-hit by the Reds’ Homer Bailey.

Charles LeClaire-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Homer Bailey threw the first Cincinnati Reds' no-hitter since 1988 on Friday night, but while the NL Central champs have reason for their second champagne bath in less than a week, it's a different story around the rest of Pittsburgh.

Bailey's no-no was the first thrown against the Pirates since the Cardinals' Bob Gibson did it way back in August 1971. But adding insult to injury Friday, the Pirates also lost all hope for a winning season with the loss. The season started off with so much promise for Pirates fans, and having a no-no seal the deal on their 20th straight season at .500 or worse is just a kick in the face.

Here’s how Pirates fans reacted over at Bucs Dugout:

Matt Shaffer:

On the bright side, this is the first time I’ve had butterflies watching a Pirates game in years

ludwigs9th:

hey, we made it on espn

maguro:

Could it get any worse than this? Wait, don’t answer that...

Anthony Defeo:

Was it because of the no hitter or the fact that the team now almost officially sucks for a 20th straight season?

On Twitter, more of the same:

Sorry, Pirates fans. At least you have the Penguins and Steelers.
