The Rays scored in five different innings, shelling the White Sox, 10-4, to take the series lead and go within three games of the American League Wild Card lead. The Tampa Bay bats were led by right fielder Matt Joyce, who came into the game during the fifth inning to replace Ben Francisco and promptly hit two home runs - the first being a solo shot off of Dylan Axelrod in the seventh, the second bringing in three runs off of Leyson Septimo one inning later.

Matt Moore earned the win for Tampa Bay, improving to 11-11 on the year. Chris Archer, who came in relief in the bottom of the seventh, earned the save for the Rays, his first.

Chicago had a tough go of it against the Tampa Bay pitching and defense, earning just two hits through the game's first seven innings. In the bottom of the eighth the White Sox did score four runs on a two-out Orlando Hudson grand slam. The rally would end after that, though, and the Rays lead would be safe.

The loss would go to Chicago's Chris Sale, who gave up five runs over 3-1/3 innings of work.

The series will conclude tomorrow at 2:10 p.m. Eastern in Chicago.
