For most of the last 60 years, the English National Team has worn Umbro shirts, shorts, and socks while kicking around an Umbro ball. As of spring 2013, this will no longer be the case as the English FA and Umbro will end their sponsorship deal and Nike will take the Manchester-based company’s place. Nike will provide clothes and equipment for the 24 teams that wear the Three Lions badge from the Men’s and Women’s National Teams down to the youth squads, futsal team, and amateur team until the end of July 2018.
According to the FA, the new sponsorship will cover the following:
The Football Association and Nike Announce England Kit Deal
- Supplying kit and match-balls to all of Club England's 24 football teams at every level, including the men's national teams, women's, Futsal, disability and amateur
- Sponsorship and support of St. George's Park, the home of the National Football Centre in Burton-upon-Trent, which in addition to hosting the England Senior team will train and develop a generation of coaches, referees and medical staff every year
- Supporting partner of Wembley Stadium, the home of English football
- Supporting partner for The FA Cup, supplying match balls for every round of the world's most famous cup competition
- Supply of product to County FAs.
The deal comes in the wake of Nike’s decision to divest of Umbro. The American sports equipment giant will also take over Manchester City’s kit sponsorship from Umbro.
