Ryder Cup 2012 live scores: Martin Kaymer defeats Steve Stricker, Europe wins Ryder Cup

Martin Kaymer defeated Steve Stricker and clinched a European victory at the 2012 Ryder Cup.

Martin Kaymer defeated Steve Stricker on Sunday to complete Europe’s stunning comeback against the USA team, winning the match 1-up.

Stricker took the lead early after a birdie on the second hole. He maintained the 1-up advantage until hole No. 6, when Stricker bogeyed and Kaymer converted a par to tie things up.

From that point on, the match was either even or in favor of Kaymer, who was able to hold off Stricker’s points on No. 10, 13, and 15.

Kaymer used a strong showing on No. 17 to take the lead, knocking in an impressive putt that put Stricker on the verge of defeat.

On the final hole, both players putted for par, enough to seal the match for Kaymer.

Kaymer’s victory clinched a European title at the Ryder Cup. Europe entered the day down big, but was able to come all the way back following wins from Luke Donald, Ian Poulter, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Paul Lawrie, Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood.
