Marlins center fielder/second baseman Emilio Bonifacio has had a rough year. He's been on the disabled list two different times with thumb injuries, and now has been out since mid-August with a knee problem.

With the Marlins far out of contention, Bonifacio has decided to call it a year:

Bonifacio played just 64 games this season, but got enough playing time for 30 stolen bases, which, even with that limited number of games, ranks fifth in the National League. Three of the four players ahead of him in that category have at least twice as many games played. Bonifacio hit .258/.330/.316 for an OPS+ of 77, so no matter who replaces him for the rest of the year, the Marlins will probably get better offensive production.
