Torsten Frings will undergo hip surgery that will keep him out for the remainder of Toronto FC's season. While that doesn't mean much to the Reds in the league, where they have long been realistically out of the playoff race, Frings' injury kills their already slim chances of advancing in the CONCACAF Champions League.
Torsten Frings To Miss Remainder Of Season After Hip Surgery
Torstein Frings will miss the rest of the season after a bad hip forced him to have surgery.

Frings’ hip injury has kept him out since Toronto’s CONCACAF Champions League loss to Santos Laguna on August 28. For the last week there had been hope that maybe rest and rehabilitation would allow Frings to get back on the field this season, but it wasn’t to be. He will have to undergo arthroscopic surgery that will end his season.
The good news for Frings and Toronto is that he is expected to be ready to go at the beginning of preseason next year. That is vitally important for the team considering that the 35-year-old has been one of the few bright spots for the Reds this year.
Toronto is the worst team in MLS with just 21 points from 27 matches, four points behind the next worst team. They are only three points back of Santos in Group 1 of the Champions League, but with Santos being the better team and their rematch being in Mexico, it was always a steep hill to climb if the Reds wanted to make it out of the group.
