Michigan State loses defensive tackle Brandon Clemons for the season with a foot injury.

Presswire

Michigan State defensive tackle Brandon Clemons will miss the entire season after having foot surgery, according to Diamond Leung of MLive.com. Leung said Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio made the announcement Thursday.

Clemons, a redshirt freshman, had surgery on Aug. 31, prior to Michigan State’s season-opening win over Boise State. At the time, Michigan State announced that Clemons would miss significant time, but didn’t elaborate. The Detroit Free Press reported that Clemons tweeted a message to teammates apologizing for not being able to play:

Clemons tweeted today that he had surgery Thursday. He also apologized to his teammates for not being able to play, tweeting: “We’ve all worked so hard to get to this point.”

Clemons was a backup at defensive tackle to starters Micajah Reynolds and Tyler Hoover. He was expected to complete for regular playing time this season and provide depth on Michigan State's talented defensive line.
