After blowing a five-run lead late, a trio of eighth-inning homers propelled the Baltimore Orioles to a 10-6 victory over the New York Yankees Thursday night. The Orioles are now tied with the Yankees for the AL East division lead.

With the score tied 6-6 in the eighth, Adam Jones launched a home run off David Robertson in the home half of the inning. Following a Matt Wieters single, first baseman Mark Reynolds blasted a two-run shot, giving the Orioles a 9-6 lead. They weren't done yet, however, as designated hitter Chris Davis welcomed reliever Boone Logan to the contest by belting a solo home run of his own, extending the lead to 10-6.

Baltimore bashed four first-inning runs on Yankees starter David Phelps, including a three-run homer to left off the bat of Wieters. Phelps would also surrender a solo home run to second baseman Robert Andino in the fourth, leaving the game after four innings pitched with six hits and five earned runs allowed.

Down 6-1 heading into the eighth inning, New York began a furious rally to tie the game. Third baseman Alex Rodriguez sparked the frame with a RBI double off Randy Wolf, whittling Baltimore's lead to 6-2. Then, reliever Pedro Strop entered the game for the Orioles and the Yankees continued chipping away, first with a run-scoring single from Curtis Granderson, and then, with the bases loaded, pinch-hitter Chris Dickerson drew a walk.

Ichiro Suzuki would tie the game for Yankees at 6, driving in a 2-run single to right field.

The two teams will meet for the second game of their critical four-game set in Baltimore on Friday night.
