Spain Vs. Saudi Arabia: Because La Roja Will Play Anyone
Getty ImagesLast international break, La Roja played an odd international friendly in Puerto Rico, at the Islanders’ stadium. Spain, the reigning World Cup and European champions, played in a U.S. second division stadium. This week, they’re playing Saudi Arabia at home in the 12,000 seat Estadio Municipal de Pasaron, home to Tercera Division side Pontevedra CF.
Presumably, Vicente del Bosque will use this opportunity to play a mix of first-choice players to warm up for Spain’s qualifier against Georgia and fringe players who could conceivably do a job for him. He could have done this against any team, in any stadium. This game is dumb.
