Tom Zbikowski was handed a four-game suspension by the NFL on Tuesday, but the initial press release didn't indicate what caused the suspension. USA Today's Tom Pelissero later tweeted that the suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Zbikowski is currently a free agent after being cut by the Chicago Bears last month. The safety spent the first four seasons of his career with the Baltimore Ravens before starting 11 games as the strong safety for the Indianapolis Colts last season. He's record 70 tackles and three interceptions over the course of 64 games in the NFL.
The suspension will likely keep the 28-year-old out of the NFL for the foreseeable future considering the four-game suspension would keep him from being useful as an injury replacement this season.
The former Notre Dame standout has been suspended one other time during his professional career, but it wasn’t as an NFL player. Instead, Zbikowski was briefly suspended after a drug test revealed THC in his system following a professional boxing match. He hasn’t fought since, however, and his record has stood at 4-0 since April of 2011.
