The Texas Longhorns announced Friday night that defensive tackle Brandon Moore has decided to forego his senior season to enter the 2013 NFL Draft. The move was announced by Moore and the team put out an official release, capping off his Texas career after just one season.

Texas defensive tackle Brandon Moore has declared for the 2013 NFL Draft, foregoing his senior season in a bit of a surprise.

Moore released a statement, which is below, via the team’s official website.
“I want to thank Coach (Mack) Brown, Coach (Bo) Davis and everyone at Texas,” Moore said. “I enjoyed my time and really appreciate the opportunity I had to play for the Longhorns, but my lifelong dream has been to play in the NFL and to have a chance to support my family. I’ll definitely miss everyone at Texas and will always pull for the Longhorns, but I’m ready to put all of my energy into preparing for my future and getting ready to work out for NFL scouts.”
It’s somewhat surprising, given Moore’s relative lack of experience. He transferred from the JUCO level just last season, playing only one year with Texas. He started five of the team’s 12 games in which he played.
He finished with 18 tackles and two sacks, but was ranked fifth on the team with eight tackles for a loss. He was impressive rushing the passer in limited time and was expected to get significant playing time as a senior, but there’s still very limited tape on him.
He did play as a backup for the Alabama Crimson Tide, behind guys like Marcell Dareus and Josh Chapman, but was suspended for violating team rules, which prompted his transfer to the East Mississippi Community College.
Still, the tape that is there will likely lead to him being drafted, but as to where his placement is, it’s anybody’s guess.
