East-West Shrine Game 2013 coaches: Jerry Glanville in charge of East team

The colorful coach spent time as the head coach of the Houston Oilers and Atlanta Falcons, and also as a racecar driver. Here’s some more information on his career.

Former NFL head coach Jerry Glanville will be in charge of the East team this week at the East-West Shrine Game. Coach Glanville is most famous for his four year stint in charge of the Atlanta Falcons from 1990-1993, but he previously served as the head man for the Houston Oilers from 1986-1989. He also was the head coach for FCS Portland State from 2007-2009, but went only 9-24 in his three seasons there.

In his eight full seasons as an NFL head coach, Glanville compiled a record of 60-69. His teams made the playoffs four times, but never advanced beyond the Divisional round. After his time with the Falcons, Glanville dabbled in NASCAR as both an owner and driver, but ran only 33 races in his career.

No word yet whether Glanville will leave game tickets for Elvis at will call on Saturday.
