Panthers coaching rumors: Hue Jackson to interview for offensive coordinator job

The Carolina Panthers are considering Cincinnati Bengals secondary coach Hue Jackson for their vacant offensive coordinator position.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Carolina Panthers will interview Cincinnati Bengals assistant Hue Jackson for their offensive coordinator job, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Jackson is currently secondary coach and assistant special teams coach for the Bengals. In 2011, he served as head coach of the Oakland Raiders, leading the silver and black to an 8-8 record. After a 7-4 start to the season, Oakland was 1-4 in its final five games.

Jackson has experience in the NFL as an offensive coordinator, holding the position with the Raiders in 2010, the Atlanta Falcons in 2007 and the Washington Redskins in 2003. In 2010, the Raiders finished 10th in the NFL with 354.6 yards per game and sixth with 25.6 points per contest.

The Panthers are searching for a replacement for Rob Chudzinski, who left to take over as head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Chudzinski served as offensive coordinator for the last two seasons, and the Panthers ranked 12th in total offense (360.7 yards per game) and 18th in points per game (22.3) in 2012.
