Thursday on the women’s side of the 2013 Australian Open didn’t present many surprises, as the three highest-seeded women playing advanced to the fourth round of play.
Australian Open 2013 results: Women’s high seeds advance to 4th round
The fourth, fifth and sixth-seeded players in the women’s bracket advanced to the fourth round of the 2013 Australian Open on Thursday.

Fourth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland defeated Great Britain’s Heather Watson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, while Germany’s Angelique Kerber, the tournament’s fifth seed, bested American Madison Keys in straight sets as well, 6-2, 7-5.
Na Li, the sixth seed out of China, beat No. 27 Sorana Cirstea from Romania, 6-4, 6-1, rounding out the four, five and six seed sweep on Thursday.
With Keys out, American women remaining in the Australian Open are Venus and Serena Williams, Jamie Hampton and Sloane Stephens.
Elsewhere on Thursday, No. 13 Ana Ivanovic defeated fellow Serbian Jelena Jankovic, who was No. 22 in the tournament, 7-5, 6-3. Additionally, Germany’s Julia Goerges, the 18-seed, beat China’s Jie Zheng in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 7-5.
The lone upset of the day on the women’s side was No. 19 Ekaterina Makarova of Russia downing France’s Marion Bartoli, the 11-seed, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-4.
