Washington Redskins injury report: Kirk Cousins, London Fletcher sidelined on Wednesday

Four players miss practice as the Redskins get ready for their Wild Card contest against Seattle.

USA TODAY Sports

Washington Redskins' linebacker London Fletcher (ankle) and backup quarterback Kirk Cousins (illness) were among four players sidelined for Wednesday's practice, according to reports. Each player's status for Washington's Wild Card game Sunday against Seattle remains unknown. Cornerback D.J. Johnson (knee) and guard Kory Lichtensteiger (ankle) also sat out.

Cousins was reported to have the flu. Drafted in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL draft, he's served as the primary backup to starter Robert Griffin III throughout the season. Cousins led Washington to a road victory against Cleveland in Week 15 after Griffin went down with a knee injury. If Cousins can't backup Griffin on Sunday, that duty will likely fall to former starter Rex Grossman.

Lichtensteiger suffered an ankle injury in Washington's Week 17 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. He told reporters that his ankle felt better on Wednesday than it had earlier in the week, and he's hopeful he can play against the Seahawks.

Fletcher’s decision to sit out has become customary as he has dealt with a left ankle injury.

Washington’s Wild Card showdown with Seattle is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. EST on Sunday and can be seen on Fox.
