The family of injured X Games snowmobile competitor Caleb Moore has set up a fund to collect donations on his behalf via a website, according to a USA Today report.

Moore was injured on Thursday when an attempt to perform a backflip on his snowmobile fell short and went terribly wrong. The machine landed directly on top of him after striking the ground as he worked to pull it from underneath him. He initially walked away from the crash with what was deemed a concussion, but things took a turn for the worse when doctors discovered bleeding from his heart.

After being diagnosed with what’s being labeled a heart contusion, Moore has spent nearly a week in the intensive care unit at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo. His family on Sunday announced there had been a “brain complication.”

The 25-year-old Texas native is described by friends and family as being a happy person who enjoyed having a good time. Fans will remember the intensity he brought to his entertaining, yet dangerous, sport.

The events that have unfolded since this frightening accident are a harsh reminder of the danger involved.
